Yes, we can't entirely reject the possibility that a Turner or a Blackett had been working closely with an important thinker of the age and therefore Beckfoot was a gift...

Just a quick one to Mr. Lambert - I'm probably just saying this to annoy him actually, which isn't really in the spirit of Tarboard, but hopefully I may be forgiven this once: I might disagree with you about Amsterdam/Vancouver (although it's an argument that I don't feel has been ENTIRELY won by either side just yet), but I certainly wouldn't jump down your throat for broaching the subject. However, a few words about labour theory of value and material class relations and you're over-reacting like nobody's business! Is intolerance only intolerable when it's politically correct? If so, then something seems a little bit topsy-turvy in your world... I suspect that if somebody anounced that cannabis should be legalised in Bowness (!!! - I can't think of any other reason it would be introduced into a Tarboard discussion!!!) you would react in quite a 'sensitive' way.

Rather than worry about people being 'sensitive' or over-'politically correct', should we not just accept that people who hold various opinions like to argue their case with spirit and vigour. I do not think that all opinions are of equal value, I'm not even remotely a liberal in that respect as has probably been quite clear from some of my postings re: class and politics - but I do think that a forum such as this should TREAT all opinions as equal and, at the moment, you seem to imagine that you are the only person with a God-given right to cause offence!
