Then what would the tonnage of the 27 foot sloop I once owned? I have no idea what her actual displacement was or her deadweight - just her dimensions. Beam was about 9 feet, draught 6.5 feet. Many thanks for your highly instructive dissertation on the many forms of calculating tonnage (or tunnage). When I mentioned two ton, half ton, etc. I was thinking of The Riddle of the Sands. What measurenent was Erskine Childers using: Thames Tonnage, Builders' Old Measurement?
