Sir Walter Lawry Buller (1838-1906), a noted New Zealand ornithologist and author of the classic “Buller’s Birds”, full title “A History of the Birds of New Zealand” (1873) was a collector in the Jemmerling tradition, as he liked to collect skins of the birds for himself and for other collectors!

He had an equivocal attitude to the survival of the native birds, and of the Maori race. At 19, he became a fellow of the Linnean Society of Lon London.
