It's called imagination, Mr Wright - think about it. Meanwhile, pardon me, but I don't fancy a trial voyage with someone of that attitude.

I joined the Arthur Ransome Society in 1990, and the application form asked 'Do you own a boat?' Yes/No. To really rub it in, the next question was 'If not, would you like to own a boat?' Yes/No.

Both questions were an impertinence, and I'm glad to see that they have been dropped.

I am happy to read 'sisterhook' postings, and good luck to all sailors, but please don't think you have a monopoly on AR. Some of the most devout AR fans have never been afloat in their life, apart from the Mersey ferry, and that includes:
