The codes are called 'emoticons' beloved of real computer nerds (a note to our American friends - nerd in the UK is not a compliment!) And I too missed it in the original message, maybe because I don't expect to see it in such a forum.
As for boat owning and AR - well I first read them around the age of 10 and my parents did not of the money or inclination to own a boat, so AR gave the opportunity to experience such things second hand.
