As yet another longtime spectacles wearer (who aslo can blame it on
reading Ransome by a feeble nightlight) I would say that it is not
uncommon for glasses wearers to fiddle with them in times of stress
I have just taken to wearing contact lenses when hill walking or
climbing etc, and notice that I keep trying to fiddle with my glasses.
I notice this of course because they are not there and so I poke
myself in the face trying to push them up etc. Mind you I almost never clean them.
