Yes, Mike, soundings for most US charts are in feet. I'm not sure just when the change happened. We have some charts from the late 19th C and the soundings there are in fathoms (they also show property boundaries on shore!). US offshore charts usually have soundings in fathoms, though. Metric soundings would take some getting used to!

It is indeed a fun place to sail (or row, or motor). If you get tired of the little bay, the larger Penobscot Bay awaits with loads of fun destinations suitable for any wind direction. We are truly blessed, I believe.

The organization I work for has helped to protect many of the islands and some of the more important shoreline parcels in that chart. It's wonderful knowing that my children (#1 due in March) and grandchildren (should we be so blessed) will experience this place much as I have.
