Yes, We Did'nt Mean to Go To Sea and The Picts and The Martyrs are my favourites now. As a child, however, I loved Swallowdale best - it was the longest, so the world I was escaping into lasted longest, and it did not involve boats, which I did not have access to, to any great extent. Titty and Roger climbing under the bridge is something that any child can do for themselves, and I am sure most do! Pigeon Post was scary, because of the fire, and Swallows and Amazons was too lyrically intense - I read it only if I was feeling particularly sad.
