I agree! Bouyancy aid is sensible. As is an accompanying boat. Or better still, both. And wait until August.
BTW There is an event which involves swimming the lenght of Windermere (and back?). Went to hire native war canoes from Rio once to do a bit of windmilling and found that all the big uns had been hired to act as support on the swim. Hired 2 smaller ones and saw them all "swimming along the old canal that carried the bricks to Dawley".Or "the old lake that carried the logs to Newby" Fun but not for the faint hearted.
