My understanding is that Swallow was derived from boats used for fishing (shrimping?) in that estuary.

Thought she was built for the next estuary up from the Lune into Morecambe Bay - that of the River Kent. I've forgotten the name of the Arnside boat builder but think there's a small scale model of their buildings/yard at Lancaster Maritime Museum, St George's Quay, Lancaster.
