Water temps here vary tremendously. Southern New England with its long lovely beaches is perfectly tropical in summer. Southern Maine can be quite lovely, too. It's the rocky coast of Maine that gets quite bracing. We normally swim in a tidal cove where the water is warmed, we like to think, by the sunbaked mud it slowly washes over. But, I've never seen it above 65F (18.5C). Still, once you "get used to it" you can last for a goodish period. Nothing like a dip after a hot afternoon working in the woods or fields!
