Having just recently read PD for the first, second and third times, and the rest of the series for the first time in 40 years or more, I must agree. PD and ML do not pull me into the action as the others do. There is an aura of implausibility about them which says, "No, this could not happen." The action in all the other books, while perhaps unlikely, is at least possible, given the period and the ages of the characters.
