Jim Brading, having anchored Goblin on the Shelf with five fathoms out, rows over to Felixstowe Dock in Imp, to get petrol.

The dock, built by Colonel Tomline in the 1880's and long considered a white elephant, so that it was almost derelict in Ramsome's day, apart from the adjacent maltings and a couple of warehouses, so that yachtsmen routinely used it, is to be filled in as the next stage of Felixstowe's development as Britain's main container port.

So a little bit of Ransome country is to vanish. Fortunately the view across to Harwich is almost exactly the view that Ransome drew.
