The residents of Taiwan (Republic of China) call it Peiping. A loose translation is "Northern Peace" or "Northern Flatland". "Beijing" means northern capital (of the People's Republic of China.) The Taiwanese don't recognize Beijing as the capital of China, so still call it Peiping. "Jing" means capital.
