I totally agree with Duncan. Full-time household staff need paying for. This means income for Beckfoot, which means farm rents etc. The terrain in the Lake country, and the amount of 'common' land for grazing, means that vast income-producing estates are not really possible. The Blacketts may have owned and rented out a few smallholdings but there is no evidence of this.
