Bobstays:

I was merely using the term as a reference length, having spent a delightful evening before reading the first few chapters of SW.

Jib booms and Bobstays.

Actually the best fit for the "normal" school type program is July 1932 with the moon being correct as well. So I have been and asked one of the old schools what was there school year in 1932 and 1933. Hopefully I will get a reply from the archivist. The current school year at Eton and Harrow are perfect fits for the 1932 being the PM year if it were July, but it is not.

Also if Dick got on the train at Crewe, unless there is something really odd about British Rail in the 1930's (or its types of predecessors) I can not see that he attended Rugby. I do not know enough about the EPS to say what school is close to Crewe or on one of the lines around there. Any ideas?

The August Moon in 1932 is totally off,but August 1933 Moon is an excellent match. As there are so many references to August I fear it is 1933.

The fun continues.

Does anyone know what AR said in his biography about CN and the rest of the plot. My copy is still in England and I get weekly reminders from Amazon saying it will be at least another month.

Happy sailing.

John
