Perhaps AR thought of the summer holidays as being mainly in August?
While the PP holidays could have started in July, most of it is set in August as on the 5th day (Prospecting; Ch 10 p 116 Red Fox) he mentions the “dry and dusty earth cracked in the August heat”. Later there is “the August evening” (Ch 26 p 306).
Prospecting (Ch 10 p 116) refers to “the Germans who came to these lake-country fells and mined copper in the time of Queen Elizabeth”.
When they saw Slater Bob (Ch 3 p 36) he said “Queen Elizabeth had her Dutchies here ..” But at that time I suppose the Netherlands was a collection of German tribes, not a country!
