I agree that the through carriages would very likely have been taken on from Oxenholme (Strickland Junction) by a (black) ex LNWR 4-4-2T Precursor Tank. But I have a contemporary Guage 1 model of one of these and the boiler proportions, position of the funnel, funnel shape and frame design are completely wrong.
Of course AR might simply have been writing a story rather than creating a virtual image for future reference, but isn't it fun to follow the virtual image line!
