Conversely, the passage cited by Mike Dennis, above (11042), also from Swallowdale, shows the GA using "father" as a stick to beat poor Molly with, implying that, after his demise, at any rate, she was quite prepared to approve of him, and to claim that he would have seen things her way!
This is pretty accurate psychology of course - most of us know people who would do just that.
