Class:

Whilst I am as conscious as any Australian is about class, as a matter of fact it was commented on by one of our Profs here (she was saying that Aussies are a bit class conscious), one would have to say that there were two distinct classes of children in SA, those who went to EPS and those such as Jacky who did not. The other class is not allowed to have much fun.

Whilst AR was not sexist, he had not yet broken completely out of the calss mould.

You can see the same sort of disticnt in Buchans' work, such at the Hanney stories, although he was sexist to some extent. BB may not have been acceptable to the GA, but as with the Swallows I fear it had nothing to do with School but personality. The GA does not like people who buck her system. I can not see Nancy's father not bucking the system.

So unless AR was making a big change and I do not see evidence of it, he was still beset with a percieved difference.
