In short, the class distinctions are all over. As for the D&Gs, having their own "pleasure yacht" no doubt made them "honorary officer class".

One point to consider when judging Bob Blackett's status, "officer class" or not, in both Wars, many young men elected to enter as "other ranks" for various reasons.
