I've wondered about this too. Although more on the lines of identifying the D's home town than their schools. There can't have been that many universities with skating rinks nearby. ( Does it say at the University in WH?)
BTW "fan fiction" and specualtion about romantic links among AR readers in general long predate Harry P and have surfaced from time to time on this site. I'm interested that most seem to discount Nancy / John as ( too obvious) I've never picked up on any John/Peggy vibes and as for Timothy I've always assumed that he was much older than Nancy. Of course the 8 year gap is possible but I can't see why any should think it probable.
