Quite a lot of us UK TARS believe Dick's father was Professor at University College, London. This is very close to Euston Station. We looked at UCL as a possible site for the Literary Weekend this year, with the prospect of touring Dick's father's department, but other considerations outweighed it. (So we're going to Greenwich.)
As for skating rinks, I can't say where they were in London, but we can be certain there was one somewhere. By the time I was growing up in the London area, there was one in Bayswater, straight through from Euston Square on the Underground in about 15 minutes.
