I used to think that the university in question was Leeds on the basis of Ar's father having taught there. But then I began to doubt it. The Ds' being portrayed as such complete city children didn't seem to ring true with being brought up in a Northern city surrounded by hills. Even Alan Bennett who is pretty urban describes outings from Leeds to Wharfedale. So I am glad to see Alan nominating UCL, an institution which suggests itself to me by its propinquity to the Britsh Museum and its Egytpian collection. Wasn't Prof Callum an Egytpologist? The references to London that Robert posted seem to clinch it.
