You are spot on about John but did the Amazons say they were taught to sail by CF or just that he had given them Amazon? I expect that you are right and they said both. But Nancy is shown as someone who can not only sail Amazon but is expert in all things nautical. After all the famous "mouse your sisterhooks" instruction came from her. Maybe it was her confidence that made her seem such a paragon to John and the Ds.
