In British universities, the title Professor is used only for the most
senior grade of academic staff. Many people spend their life as a
lecturer and never become a professor. The Ds' father is certainly an
archaeologist throughout the series, but my point was that in the
earlier references he's still Mr Callum, it's only later that he becomes
Professor Callum.

I've found a quote in WH chapter 3, 'Father and mother have gone to Egypt,
to dig up remains.' This, together with the Roman Wall reference,
confirms that he worked on both ancient Egypt and Roman Britain.
