A Bermudan rig would be highly inappropriate for such a boat for technical, not aesthetic reasons. "D&G" was a quite heavy boat for its size, and would require a fair bit of pushing to move it along. Gaff and lug rigs are surprisingly powerful compared to bermudan; a bit like comparing a draught horse to a pony. This is why bermudan rig was never used for working sail; it just didn't have the grunt. Also boats rigged with gaff or lug rigs are more stable, and if you are working at sea you need all the stability that you can get.
