In an article published in 1998 I examined the names of nearly 6000 individuals mentioned in the Enclosure Awards of Cumberland (1740 to 1890). This is a little to the north of AR country, including the largest section of the Lake District.

Among those 6000 there was just one (1) Blackett. There were 15 Turners and 50 Atkinsons (the ninth most popular name, in fact). There actually is an Atkinson Ground this day near Windermere -- I have a slide of the name on the gate.

"Dundale" seems to be based on "Dunnerdale", an alternative name for the Duddon Valley -- also in the general AR territory.

Incidentally, in my name survey Smith, reputedly the most common name in the English-speaking world, came 17th (Hodgson was first, followed by Wilson).

Different people in that part of the world.
