As an example of Britishers (is that the term) not understanding American regional differences (and the difference between North & South) there is the Readers’ Digest story of a British village in WWII that was hosting some American troops largely from the South eg Georgia.

So the village band turned out - playing “Marching through Georgia”.

I should point out that this relates to the Civil War (aka War between the States?) and General Sherman’s March through Georgia when he burned Atlanta to the ground, as shown in “Gone with the Wind”.
