I doubt if it appears in AR, but John omitted that a pound is widely known as a "quid" - in the same way that a dollar is known as a "buck". I have often met Americans trying to get hold of British slang who add an "s" to multiples, e.g. "five quids" - which no native Briton would ever do, "quid" remaining resolutely singular no matter how many are involved, e.g. "five quid".
