A few years ago Ian ran a feature where we picked our favourite S.& A. book. If I recall correctly, Pigeon Post and Swallowdale were almost tied at the top of the list. Maybe we should try it the other way round? Judging from how long it takes me to re-read it Great Northern must be my least favourite. I always seem to get bogged down somewhere in the middle. I'm on page 193 now and the divers will have to wait for a couple of Harry Flashmen, Twelve Bar Blues, and a Barbara Pym before they regain my attention this summer. On the other hand, as our forefather Peter Dowden used to say, it (GN) is one of my twelve favourites. Which makes me wonder whether he is still around. I'm rather hazy about the metamorphosis of the board he used to run into TARBoard. I hope there were no hard feelings about it.
