Rock cakes are buns with sultanas in, which you make by putting splodges of the mixture on a baking tray instead of in bun tins or paper cases. They come out all different shapes, like mountains. They also have quite a satisfying hard crust so I don't know if it's this or the shape that gives them their name! It's the kind of cooking we used to do with our mother, when we were small, rather than something you see in cake shops (though I will look out for them now.)
