Lets not get into crumpets please! This is confusing enough already...
When I was in New England, "English Muffins" were rather plain, flat, circular items to be cut in half and filled with a fried egg. As an Englishman, I think of a muffin as being similar, but with fruit in it and served toasted with Jam/Jelly.
Come to think of it, I didn't see any scones in Connecticut, but that doesn't mean they weren't there. I got fed a lot of cookies, corn bread and American muffins in people's houses, but never scones, so they must be an English home baking fad.
I like these food discussions!
