In my case, the answer is "yes". I was moved to read both as a child by having first read Ransome. But this leads on to a general thought - what a very literary lot the Swallows and Amazons are - not just knowing their Keats looking into Chapman's Homer, but Hakluyt's Voyages, forsooth!
