One of the things that first drew me to the books was not only how well read the children are, but the way they weave their school-learning into their play. I loved the way they pretend to be people they had read about and name places and people based on their schooling.

I have often wondered if this were primarily a result of AR's imagination or if it reflected some propensity for kids of that time and place.
