Why don't you just say 'fat'!
Looking at the 1930s pictures, she certainly wasn't fat. Big, handsome, but not overweight.
In the only photo I have of her and AR (in Roger Wardale's "In Search of Swallows and Amazons, pub. Sigma Leisure, ISBN 1-85058-481-8, a lovely gentle read) they are both sitting down by the fireplace. Not much height info there. There's another picture of Evgenia, in 1929, standing on the ice of frozen Windermere, leaning on the bowsprit of 'Maid Marion'. Another of her at Lower Ludderburn, standing by a pike of unknown size. Those might provide clues for people who know more about pikes and boats than I do. All the photos are credited "Arthur Ransome, courtesy Abbott Hall".
