No sign of a towline in the Godine edition, seems like awfully open water for towing on the hip, and the cabinhouse appears well-laden with explorers supplies (rather than sailing dinghy). I'd very much like to see the original drawings or, failing that, the first edition's illustrations. Seems odd that AR would have missed that detail, so I'm willing to go with the wartime cropping explanation.
