Yeah, sorry - I think that was my fault. Looking back at my initial message I DO think it was 'appropriate-ish', but I can't pretend that I didn't think it was going to lead us off track a little...

I suppose the point of my initial posting was that somebody else (and I confess I can't remember who) suggested that those who favoured 'Marxist nonsense' were highly critical of the SA series. I was suggesting that an alternative view that in fact purveyors of 'Marxist nonsense' (myself included) can actually find an awful lot to admire in the books (beyond the obvious simple enjoyment of a hatful of excellent yarns). And while I sometimes think there's only me and Paul Foot amongst current AR fans (and we're two very different socialists it has to be said) - one should not be surprised if there's a left/socialist/Marxist rediscovery of AR before too long!
