The first meeting of the Swallows and Amazons did not end up in a fight even though it was a near thing, but there was a fight in SW with the Eels and Amazons where the Swallows came off worst!

My boyhood reading of the 12 stories was of (public) library hardback copies, though an aunt once gave me “Old Peter’s Russian Tales”. I now have four ex-library hardbacks (GN a first edition, with the picture error). Our house had lots of books; as my father was always buying expensive civil engineering books.

Genia collaborated with Kaye Webb on the first (Puffin) paperback editions of the books after Arthur’s death (see Brogan).
