The turnip-sawfly, a hymenopterous insect, Athalia centifoliæ, the larva of which (turnip-******) feeds on turnip-leaves;

The long posting that I put up on the turnip included a reference to a word (shown above as ****** that will not get past the censor program. It is the Spanish world for "black" which is very derogatory term in English, the interesting part is that I had a look and there are some things which use the Spanish "black" term in the derived word to describe an insect or grass etc. See above - which is not necessarily related to the offensive use.

Is it offensive I wonder to use this word on such things?

And do we need to correct all English?

Also I got the latest Penguin guide to English and it said that one should not use the term "...... challenged" for anything. It is now derogatory?

John
