Dear Dennis,

I would be very surprised if anyone on the site above the age of 12 who dreams of AR after reading the books would need a solution. The usual AR fan in my opinion is slightly more intelligent than the average IQ, but I could be wrong as I often am.

Ed Kiser sent me a well thought out one yesterday which I will repeat here without asking Ed's permission
John-

Let X be the number of guppies to be removed.

99% of 200 says that there are 198 guppies to start with.

If you take X of them out, you have only (198-X) guppies left.

WIth X fish removed, left in the tank of all types is (200-X).

The remaining guppies is 98% of the remaining population in the tank, or:

(198-X) = .98 ( 200-X)

Solve for X.

X=100

Of the 198 original guppies, remove 100, leaving only 98.

Of the original 200 fish, 100 have been removed, leaving now 100 of all types.

The remaining guppy count of 98 is 98% of the total count of 100.

Was this supposed to be a tricky question?
