How get Coots home from the Lake?
Undoubtedly there would be a friendly truck-driver by way of Norfolk (not boat haulage, for variety) with plenty of space, for whom the Coots have somehow done a good turn.
Or a Showman's Caravan (of the type to be seen at Beck Allan's self-catering in Grasmere, v. reasonable too; very comfortable believe me) - on his way to a Circus or County Fair in that area. (But encroaching on 'Circus Shoes' territory ??)
Or the Coots avert a train-wreck & get free tickets from the respective train companies (all 4 of them) as a result.. not 1st class of course.
I forget if the Coots ever telephoned their families to report safe arrival, & must dig out my half-book sometime to re-read it. Then their father(s) would have eventually intervened somehow.
Or they are shanghied by the Oxus children in one of their protracted Taxi expeditions across England...
