In fact a common thread for a lot of postings on this site (and conversations amongst AR enthusiasts) is what, and how much, they learned from reading AR's books. He never made it 'teaching' - at least to the reader - and always made it fascinating, regardless of the topic. One of his chief attractions to kids, in my opinion - I believe children really do like books (and other things) they can learn from, so long as the books (or things) either aren't deliberate teaching tools or mask it well.
