According to this useful site which gives the purchasing power value in today's pounds of sums of money from the past 30/- in 1932 or 1933 would have been worth between £84 and £87 in 2002 money.
I don't think the "Milk Index" quite takes into account some areas where prices have diminished considerably in relative terms. Consider phone calls for example I think a local phone box callcost 2d in 1933, at today's rates 48p. A telegram would cost about 1/- or £ 2.92, compare to an e-mail nowadays!
