Apologies to you and everyone, John, if you've spent time without purpose – please put it down to the deadpan British ‘humour’. We were trying to continue the puerile tradition which Roger describes so well in Missee Lee. And it also inspired the link to the funniest site I have visited for ages – French Concoction (I can't find the posting now)

But I’m disappointed about Ed Kiser’s reaction. ‘Intellectual snow’? Hey, Ed, lighten up a bit - don’t knock something because you don’t (or won’t) understand it. Remember the old adage: ‘if you don’t like a Tarboard thread, you should stop reading it’. Yes, I’ve made a few cheap jibes at sailing technology, but in reality sailing is a very relevant topic for this site, and I do actually like reading about boats, and looking at them. Up at Windermere last July we had a marvellous re-creation of the scene when the Great Aunt arrived at Beckfoot aboard Scarab. Everyone concerned was in costume. Then people had a try at cutting ‘NO GO’ with the lawn mower (a ‘Ransome’ of course). We played croquet, G.A.-style. Robert Thompson named and launched his new dinghy. Landsmen like me were taken out on the lake in the ‘Beckfoot launch’ through the kindness of Jim Andrews. The day was magic, and it will be reported in the next Signals So come on, Ed, expand your horizons! It’s not ‘intellectualism,’ it’s just Ransome enthusiasm, even if we do get a bit carried away sometimes.
