Having recently returned from a family camping trip (in sweltering Kentucky) far from the Internet I have been overwhelmed by the number and complexity of topics that have arisen in my absence.

However, I do have a minor point to make about a current thread. I think a number of respondents are missing the point about the awfulness of "Camp" coffee. I believe the original post was not talking about coffee made when camping, but about a peculiar British concoction of coffee and chicory, in liquid form. It came (may still come) in narrow square bottles with a picture on the front of a British officer lounging in a camp chair somewhere in India being served by an obsequious turbanned camp servant -- hence the trade name "Camp" coffee.
