I think 'Ready Aye Ready' is an all-purpose motto. It is, for instance, the motto of the Sea Cadet Corps, and also of the Johnstone Clan in Scotland. It is also the title of a tune in the military band repertoire. It looks a bit odd stuck onto the tip of that strange conical tent.
Actually, leaving 'imperialist' considerations aside, I doubt if the British officer is 'lounging' - he is sitting on a bass drum, ie on the tension rods. Ouch. And the Indian 'servant' is probably in fact an Adjutant - he appears to have military rank.
