I don't have the book right here, but IIRC the base map had both the kraal and the landing place marked. That would give them the necessary two known points. I don't recall seeing bearings to the landing place, but they could have paced it during the process of ferrying gear to the camp, or used Wizard's anchor rode as a measure.
