Like all Amazon Pubs. books, ‘Jibbooms and Bobstays’ is not really a ‘stand alone’ – it is intended to be read by Ransome readers and relates directly to his books. It is subtitled ‘A Miscellany for Readers of the Twelve Children’s Books of Arthur Ransome’. The Chapters are:
AR’s Lakeland
AR’s Broadland
The East Coast
Ships, Boats and Craft
The Hebrides
Far Adventures
Missee Lee’s Latin Class
Poetry and Poets
Animals
Nautical Glossary
Nautical Phrases and Sayings
Aqua Regia
People
Plants
Birds
Fish
Food and Drink
Recipes
Pipe Aboard – Penny Whistle Playing
Stars – From Dick’s Library
Dedications – The Twleve Books
Glossary: general
Glossary: Lakeland
Glossary: East Anglian

You can see from this that the book relates directly to Ransome’s world. It is an information provider rather than a ‘how-to’ book. I would have thought it of tremendous interest to a young enthusiastic reader of Ransome. It will no doubt appear in the lists of obtainable publications printed on the last page of TARS magazines. I think it is going to sell at £17.50 plus postage. I would recommend it.

I must point out that I have no connection with Amazon Publications. Furthermore, I have to say, sadly, that the book has not been proof-read properly, and contains shoals of typos. There is no excuse for this. However, this does not really detract from the usefulness of the book – and you can always play a game of who can spot the most errors! The quality of the book as regards paper and printing is otherwise excellent.
