In order to get the largest sampling, I chose chapter 24 as it seemed to be the largest in Winter Holiday (2533 words). It was a rather exciting chapter to review anyway.

The review gave a fit over the many contractions, such as:

Nancy'll...

Ransome does a lot of "'ll" after the Subject. Perhaps a nice informal touch, somewhat conversational, but grammar checkers don't like it.

Of course it leaped on words like "owt." It suggested "owl" which I ignored.

My files are written in ASCII TEXT using a very simple editor, EDIT. WORD had to do some translating when it read it in. By letting WORD reformat the paragraphs, that got rid of those hard coded CR/LF at the end of every line that EDIT uses. Before I did that, WORD thought each line was another sentence, and fussed about its not starting with a capital letter.

I seldome use WORD, so it was an interesting voyage of exploration into a seldom used tool. Oh well, learn something new every day, in spite of my best intentions to the contrary. But that is what this forum is all about, anyway.

Hope this helps.
